Question #5: Who or what is “ The Eternal Footman”? Why is
this footman or servant snickering at Prufrock?
Line 85: I think that the Eternal Footman is the
guy who stands by the door letting everyone go through the room wearing a tuxedo.
Its his job to be there and he may also be a servant for hanging up coats. This
footman is snickering at Prufrock because of maybe he doesn’t like his job and
wishes that he didn’t have to hang peoples coats. He might be snickering at him
because in Prufrocks mind he thinks he’s snickering because of how he looks. Hes old, small and has thin arms and legs. Also how
he is getting old and getting a bald spot on top of his head. Another reason why he is snickering is because of how Prufrock is worried and it shows on his face.
