Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery" concerns itself with the concept that it can be acceptable to require the individual to sacrifice for the greater good. Many little towns seem to care about each other and will do anything for each another. People who live in a smaller community seem to get along with each other. They would do many things and will do anything for one another. You stand up in what you believe in and you respect each family. If someone is down you let them back up. In small communities you seem to know who is not doing so well. I lived in a small town and everyone knew each other and its like a one big family. In a smaller community you will sacrifice for someone who is in trouble. Once someone is down you will never be alone because no matter what you will get the support. This will help a person to try to achieve and push to become a better person. Everybody wants to reach their goals and with the support of a community you will have such a positive atmosphere to be able to achieve. In the Lottery everyone there were there almost at the same time and everyone waited. People would talk to each other and didn't show much sad emotion. They all did a community event and they didn't leave anyone out. They were all treated equally and know one was left out. It felt like it was there tradition and that they needed to do the Lottery.
